Dual Credit Art History is a one semester college level class equivalent to LCCC ART 141. Upon completion of the course with a satisfactory grade of C or better, you will earn three hours of college credit from Lewis and Clark Community College. This is a rigorous class that expects you to read and write at the college level.

The central questions in this course include the following: What is art and how is it made? Why and how does art change? How do we describe our thinking about art? Through these essential questions, you will explore the big ideas of Art History, effectively and precisely articulating an artwork’s meaning and function, its maker’s methodology, and the ways it reflects and affects its historical and cultural context. This class will enable you to develop critical thinking and visual literacy skills with which you can mine meaning from any artwork you encounter throughout your life.

This class requires you to purchase Janson's History of Art, Eighth Edition, Volume 1. You can find a used copy of this book on Amazon or other online retailers.

The following preliminary outline of the class for the 3rd Quarter gives you an idea of the pacing and the important test and due dates. The calendar is subject to change and will be updated periodically.
